Math Intervention

One of our strategies from bringing our math scores up, especially for English Learners and students with disabilities, is a pilot program in our fourth and fifth grade rooms (Rms. 27, 36) using the IPASS math intervention program.

IPASS, a comprehensive curriculum built from state standards that is implemented within a proprietary instructional delivery and management system, is an internet-enabled software program for delivering and managing math instruction.

To date we have seen incredible growth on IPASS:

•Students are recognized at our bi-monthly awards assemblies for their
progress on IPASS. This includes awards for every 1000 points earned
(a few students have passed 12,000), for students who spend a lot of time on the program, and for students with above average mastery on 5 or more tests.

•Improved test scores—Our school showed the most growth on math
Benchmark 2 (10% compared to the district average of 3%) of any school in the district. In fourth grade 16% of students were proficient or advanced on Benchmark 1 while 47% reached that level on Benchmark 2. However, 52% of IPASS students in fourth grade were proficient or advanced by Benchmark 2. The growth in fifth grade was also significant with students going from 7% at proficient or advanced on Benchmark 1 to 37% on Benchmark 2 with IPASS students making the same growth.

Three of our students are currently working at the seventh grade level even though these girls are only in fourth or fifth grade!
